Read this earlier and cos you said to witness i just sat with it for a bit. And I was like oh I'm gonna have to say that cos you won't just know. Then I thought how can I actively witness? Obviously go sit in the garden, garden basically told me to F off (I'm paraphrasing 😂) and go tend to my own house, I washed up, the sink is with the window and the seal on the double glazing is gone so permanently misty and a few days ago little heart shapes have appeared. It's charming! Obviously we need new windows 😂 I hope I will get to it at some point but the hearts are what I look for as I walk in. It reminded me of the cut branch you found.

Thanks Jen. Just the Act of witnessing is enough. But thanks for going the extra step, and for letting me know ☺️ And for the hearts, obviously 🤍💚🤎🖤

The mixture of destruction and still finding beauty in it makes this an interesting read. Like I’m a kid again watching ‘The animals of farthing wood’. That one took me to the same places like you describe with Pomona. Anger for the ignorance of the machine men, yes do your job but cutting those roses and leaving the rest? That’s just…. Deliberate destruction of a sacred altar. Whoever did that needs to look for their heart, or something 😅 Hope and love for the birds and the strength of nature, and you talking prayers over her! 🍂✨🌿

Thank you Eva, as always, for your presence here and your reflections 🙏🏼

"needs to look after their heart" - wise counsel for us all! ❤️

I will be with Pomona again today. I often carry prayers for all my friends wrestling with illness, yourself included. Wishing you so much wild green love! 💚

Owwww that’s the best kind of thing people can do for me! Thank you Jez! My garden is my most important nature sanctuary right now, and the sun who’s finally back in our lives. It’s such a joyful moment of my day to sit in the garden for a little while 🌿☀️

Your story about the destruction of Pomona touched me deeply. In Southern New Jersey where I live, I’ve seen similar desecration of the land mostly to build housing subdivisions on top of woodland and farms. A couple of years ago I drove past the newly laid concrete curbs outlining the streets of the as yet unbuilt subdivision of one of my favorite farms. I too felt powerless to stop it. Some sort of grieving ritual is needed.

Thank you David. I am sorry to hear about the destruction of the woodlands and beloved farms near to you.

Grieving rituals are certainly necessary. I'm challenged to move from personal ones to gatherings for such purposes.

I’m so sorry to read about what has happened. Places that have grown into sites of refuge, sanctuaries, and become secret gardens of delight for every kind of creature of sense seem so often to be full of fragility. Thank you for your gentle documentation of the devastation, and the wisdom it holds.
