I found my way here trying to remember Jenkinson's thoughts on be/longing for my own writing on the subject. What a beautiful expression of your own longing, so nice to stumble upon walking on love and truth. Thank you.

Wonderful poem, Jez. I was immediately caught by the mere mention of wild geese! Thank you for inviting me deeper into my sense of longing - a ‘wild chase’ that I sincerely hope doesn't go away too soon🙏

Listening to this (twice) while walking today, I found the meta-cognition element around longing powerfully directional. Good soup 😍

Glad it landed bro. Multiple people listening twice today! Wowsers 🤯

You'll be either delighted or dismayed to hear I'm still forming more useful-to-me thoughts about longing, so next week is likely to be a write up of that (plus a bunch of poems!) Rubem Alves will feature!

Oh this is universally lovely isn't it? Listened to it twice (normal speed you'd be relieved to know 😆) and skim read because it is very meaty! I think what stands out particularly for me is the justice part, I've had it in my head for a while justice is a social construct, at least our human understanding of it is, so what does that mean? And you kinda answered what that means for you here ☺️ bravo 🙌✨

Wow. That's dedication!

Thanks for the appreciation and your thoughts on the poem. 🥰🙏🏼

Hearing you about the justice stuff. Yes, a human construct, and often necessary. But to me it feels as though it works with a very different energy to the movements of grace, which transcend any notion of merit. I much prefer to lean into that. It's what I most want to receive and to offer. (see: The Grace Paradox)!

Suffice to say, I can identify with it all! 🥲💛

For starters that angel picture is so beautifully delicate and awe-full to watch ✨🥹🪽

That first poem I have always loved, and the long one is something to absolutely come back to, there’s lines I want to reread and many of them struck a chord in me. Your reading was also great, you expressed it passionately! 😁❤️‍🔥

Longing and belonging, such a theme. Thank you. As always, beautiful read Jez!

Thank you Eva, I'm so glad you enjoyed this post 🙏🏼💚

I love reading that poem out loud. It says something to me every time. And I always struggle to get through the last line without tearing up too much to speak.

That angel is the only angel in Barnoon cemetery, a small hillside plot in St. Ives, Cornwall. The sunsets from that location are stunning. When I realised I could take the sun through the angel's hand I was so excited I almost couldn't keep still enough to get the shot! (It took multiple attempts). It evokes such happy memories in me of a holiday with my older son to a cottage I'd stayed in as a child 🪽✨

It’s such a meaningful last line, I get that! 🥲❤️‍🩹

I once held the sun in a picture too, and I can relate to being a graveyard angel 😂 all kidding aside, it’s a stunning shot!

Happy you could share that childhood place and memories with your son! 🥰
