Beautiful! I love birch leaves in November and I despise corporate fuckery with a passion. I am glad that Pomona is so much more powerful than they, which of course she is. I once observed a single chicory plant learning over several months how high it could afford to grow before flowering in order to achieve seeding before the council mowers came every 6 weeks or so. I was in awe. I still am. Plants will grow on the ashes of Capitalism. #BeMoreChicory #BeMorePomona
Your story of the chicory is heartening and wonderful! I have so much to learn from plants, and so much lost time to catch up with... They are better teachers than I am a learner, for sure.
It is certain that Pomona grows back wilder after each cutting, astonishing me in the process.
Sadly Manchester is overwhelmed with corporate fuckery. I have no doubt whatsoever that the Green and the Creatures will outlast it all, and thrive; but these are hard days to witness, with towers being erected at a frightening rate. Viva the hedge resistance!
Back in college days my print outs were all on a autumnal vibe, mustardy, golden, yellow (or dehydrated urine depending on your perspective lol). Was always easy to spot my paperwork amongst everyone else's. Some would recoil at it "that's not the nicest colour" 😂 no quiet, subtle, off white yellow. The contrast between text and paper less hardwork I developed such a companionable fondness for it. "Your alright here's your yellow" I would tell myself. It was a big part of my life for 2 years and I still relate to it warmly so I in particular am delighted you've written an article about it. I like to think of my old colour companion out in the wild being appreciated ☺️
That's wonderful to hear Jen! I knew someone out there would have some fabulous resonances with yellow! And I totally understand how black print on white paper can be an almost unbearable notion for some (like my kiddo) - so props for going with your own, marvellous tone 💛
